When the bank sent OFX and you need a spreadsheet

OFX, QFX, and QBO are easy for accounting apps and awkward everywhere else. Excel will not open the tags, and Xero’s bank import wants a CSV with a date, a description, and an amount.

This page reads each STMTTRN block in the browser and writes those columns out. Dates become YYYY-MM-DD. Amounts keep the sign from the file. The FITID is included so a later import can skip rows you already have.

Going the other direction — a CSV that QuickBooks Desktop should open — use the CSV to OFX converter. If the only download your bank offers is a PDF, extract it to Excel with StatementKit first.

Questions

Does this upload my bank file?
No. Parsing happens in your browser. The OFX, QFX, or QBO file never leaves your computer, and StatementKit does not receive it.
Which files does this open?
OFX 1.x (the SGML files banks still issue), OFX 2.x XML, Quicken QFX, and QuickBooks QBO. Investment-only OFX files that contain positions instead of STMTTRN rows are not converted.
What columns are in the CSV?
Date (YYYY-MM-DD), Description, Amount, Type, Memo, and Id. Amounts keep the sign from the file: negative is money out. The Id is the OFX FITID, which you can use to spot duplicates.
Can I open the CSV in Excel?
Yes. Excel, Google Sheets, and Numbers open the download directly. Dates are ISO format so they sort correctly.
Does Xero accept OFX?
Xero’s bank statement import expects CSV, not OFX. Convert here, then upload the CSV and map Date, Description, and Amount.
What if I only have a PDF?
OFX tools cannot read a statement PDF. Use StatementKit to extract the transactions to CSV or Excel first.
